Meeting, Wednesday, 2 Apr 08, at 7:00 PM

Hi,

Another month has gone bye. I worked the recent CQ WPX contest as single band (15M) and did not have a good showing. 25 contacts. Oh well. I hope other SPARCies did better.

This month we have several things happening in addition to the normal business.

Henry, K2BFY, can tell us about his experiment with the Wednesday, 6M net. From the few emails I have seen, the initial net meetings went well. I understand Henry want to continue these. He will tell us how.

Bud, W4KSN, has been investigating our participation in the Herndon Festival. We have a many members from Herndon and this is another opportunity to get the word out. Bud can tell us what we have to do.

The primary presentation will be by Kevin, W4KLS, on NVIS. Maybe something we should think about for field day and form next VQP.

We have a presentation that we started to watch at the last meeting on a Dxpedition. If we have time and if Dick, W2YE, remembers to bring it, we will finish this.

Finally, I can bring all up to date on the status of the VQP logs, etc.

It should be a very full meeting. See you there.

Status of the VQP Party

Hi,

I had fun during the Virginia QSO Party. Worked a little at Dick's station operating as K4NVA. Also operated my home station for a while. 40M was noisely on Saturday, but on Sunday, 40M and 80M were clear.

There seemed to be more traffic this year than last. Much of this can be attributed to the club members who spent time on publicity. Bud, KI4DHY, for handling emails to Virginia clubs and to people who participated last year. Henry, K2BFY, for announcing our event on the Virginia Traffic nets. Jim, AF4MO, for coordinating calls to those counties and independent cities that were not well represented last year. And finally to those who made those calls. I hope I did not forget anyone.

The club members who operated K4NVA deserve our thanks also. They were Don, K7CS; Jim, KF4PQL; Dick, W2YE; John, N3QT; Bud, W4KSN; Chuck, KI4IEO; Gordon, NQ4K; Henry, K2BFY; and Bill, WF1l.

We have received over 130 electronic logs so far. Henry's scoring program is running very well. It makes scoring very easy. Dick, W2YE, should be receiving some paper logs shortly. We will see more of these at our next meeting.

That is all for now.

VQP is Here

Hi SPARCies,

The Virginia QSO Party starts tomorrow and I, for one, am really looking forward to it.

I want to take this opportunity to thank all the club members for their work in making the VQP happen. As near as I can tell, all the club members participated in the preparations and the group effort makes sponsoring the event a very pleasant undertaking.

Have a great weekend.

See you on the air!
