Monthly Meeting on Wednesday, 1 May 2019

Hi,

It is time for the SPARC monthly meeting for May.  Wednesday, 1 May, at 7PM.

This should be a full meeting.

Refreshments will be provided by Bill, K4UPE.

Marty, NV3H, arranged for a presentation by John Pinckney, W3XWT,  "From Crystal to Digital {Almost) A Century of Washington Television.?  Should be an interesting tour of significant technological advances.

We have several items of club business.

Herndon Festival is coming up on 1-2 June. We will talk about both the races and the booth.  We have had seven folks sign up to support the 5/10K races and only three to support a booth. If you want to support either and have not send me an email, please do so.

Field day is coming up on 22-23 June. Paul, K4PDF, has secured permission to use the baseball field, as we did last year.

The Virginia QSO Party post-party activities are coming along well. Eric, AJ4LN, and Henry, K2BFY, have finished scoring all the logs.  The draft scoring results are posted on our website.  We will be identifying the plaque winners over the next week or so.  The awards ceremony is on Saturday, 15 June, at 0900.

Finally, it is time to nominate new officers for the club for next year.  If anyone is interested in being president, or vice-president, please let me know.

We will conclude with the Tech-Ten-Talk Team Tech Ten Talk.

See you at the meeting,

Herndon Festival Races and booth support

Hi,

It is time to begin to prepare for our support to:

A booth at Herndon Festival  and

Support to the 5/10K races on Sunday.

The races first,

Last year we provided several hams with handheld radios to support the 5/10K races.  for us this means practicing using handhelds, operating in a tactical new, and generally having fun.  For the Herndon festival organizers, it means a little extra help with keeping the racers on track.

Last year we had Mary, KK4HMX; John, KK4AHY; Bill, WF1L; Jim, KN4FAF; Chaz, KK4TNO; Duane, K4UW; James, KN4BHG; and Marty, NV3H, at the races.  See their smiling faces at: https://www.qsl.net/sterling/HerndonFest/2018/2018_Herndon_Festival.html.

If you are available this year, please email back and let us know. We could use a few more than last year, so we are looking for about 10 hams this year.

The booth next,

We did not do a booth last year.  Not enough interest.  We did do a booth at the 2017 Herndon festival. See pictures at

https://www.qsl.net/sterling/HerndonFest/2017/2017_Herndon_Festival_Pics/2017_Herndon_Festival.html.

I will not be available to help out at the booth or the race.  I have another family event to attend in Richmond.

Therefore we are looking for someone to help organize the booth and manning.  Typically, we set up a canopy, radio, put out literature, and talk to people as they stop by.

IF you are interested, please email back and let us know.
