News from the Sterling Park Amateur Radio Club (SPARC)

Hi,

It is time for our February club meeting.  Wednesday, 7 Feb at 7.

I am sending out this email a little early this month.  I will be out of town from 1-4 Feb.  In Richmond on 1-2 Feb visiting my daughter but also hope to visit the ham fest on Saturday.  Then in Chesapeake to give a Virginia QSO Party presentation to the Chesapeake Amateur Radio Society on Monday evening.

I had a good month.  Did a few contacts in the NA SSB and BARTG SPRINT RTTY contests.  Also plugged in the power to the old Dentron MLA-1200 linear amplifier which had not been turned on in 20+ years.  It lit up much to my surprise.  Next I will hook up my radio and see what happens.

Refreshments for this month will be by Paul, K4PDF, and Chris, KK4HDG.

The Presentation for this month will be by Forrest, N4UTY, on "Antennas."  Forrest is really entertaining and talks about wire antennas in such a clear manner as to make us realize how simple they can be. Hope you can all come out and see it.

We have a few items of club business.

First, we will talk about the VA QSO Party.  Maybe Dick, W2YE, and talk us his plans for the club operation at his station.  Bill, KJ4VTH, can update us on plaques.

Finally, we can briefing talk abut our February tech license class and examination.  We have a full class of 23 students.  Red, N3TG, also has a few people lined up for only the exam. Should be a full weekend.

Hi,

Jim, KF4PQL, has made arrangements the Sheriff's Office for us to use the community room this coming Thursday, 9 January 2014, at 7PM.

All other stuff in the original announcement remains the same.  Except, we can hear the tales from our fellow hams who braved several feet of snow with wind gusts up to 100 miles per hour and in sub-zero weather to make it to the meeting and we were not there.

The meeting tonight is cancelled.  We cannot use the parking lot because
they need to plow it and our cars would get in the way.

We will probably reschedule.  Will let you know.
