Field Day is Over
Hi,
Field Day is over! I had a really good time. Enjoyed the company. Enjoyed the outside (for a short while).
All can comment on their most memorable event.
Smashed hamburgers for dinner on Saturday. Paul and Suzanne Fischer prepared the most excellent hamburgers I have ever tasted. And maybe among the most excellent beef anything I have ever tasted. Not really sure how they did it. I watched and I talked with Paul and Suzanne, but not really sure I got it. I know it is not an antenna, or radio, or coax or most distant station contacted, but still the most memorable.
There were many other things that stand out in mine mind. I will put a little creativity to work and highlight these when we put up pictures.
Thank you all for making this a very memorable time.

2022 Field Day - Update 10
Hi,
It is Friday night. Antenna rope hanging is done. Ropes are over three light towers.
"Deadeye" Paul, KK4AIA, was successful at leading the effort to hang ropes over two towers. The first tower took several shots. The second tower was good on the first shot.
"Tangled Up" John, KK4AHY, was successful at one and then spend the next 1-1/2 hours trying to untangle some cord. Still not fully untangled. We gave up went it got dark.
See you all tomorrow at 1000.

Need volunteers for Incoming QSL Bureau
Hi,
SPARC operates the 4th Call Area Incoming QSL Bureau for ARRL. We have been doing this for a ling time, Maybe over 40 years.
Several members of SPARC already participate in this activity. For more information see our web site at: https://www.qsl.net/sterling/QSLBuro4/QSLBuro4.html
When we receive cards from the Sterling post office, we separate the cards by the first letter following the number 4 and by 1- and 2-letter prefixes. Our long time bulk sorter, Margarete, KB4IKU, has moved to Atlanta and is no longer available to do bulk sorting. We are looking for a volunteer to replaced her. We want someone local so that I can deliver and pick up sorted cards. I estimate that this takes about 2-3 hours every 2 weeks. It is not difficult, but a little laborious.
After bulk sorting the cards, they are passed along to the letter managers. The letter managers separate the cards by call sign and distribute them to the call sign holder. ONe of our very long time letter managers, Nancy, NK4U, is giving up her letters. One of the letters, the 2-letter prefix Z, will go to the 1-letter prefix Z manager. However the 2- letter U will come to us. We need some to take on the letter manger responsibilities for this letter. Again I would like someone local to cut down on mailing costs.
So we are looking for two volunteers.

2022 Field Day - Update 7
Hi,
The equipment checkout at Eric's went well. Six attendees. All the computers and two of the radios were tested. Thanks to Eric for hosting this event.
Even, KM4SK, volunteered to attempt to get some publicity for Field Day. We wish him well.
The weather is not looking good so a discussion about weather decision is in order. The current forecast is:
Saturday 85/66 deg PM Thunderstorms with 0.31 inches of rain.
Sunday 88/66 deg PM Thunderstorms with 0.47 inches of rain.
We can watch this carefully.
We are under shelter except for the generator. We can put a canopy over the generator. We did this the last time we held field day.
The Saturday rain corresponds to the start of operations. The Sunday rain corresponds to tear down.
Thoughts??

Wednesday 2M/Zoom Net - 8 June at 8 PM - SUMMARY
We had 5 check ins on Zoom. We did not have the 2 meter net set up due to technical difficulties beyond our control.
Jokes were “entertaining”. 1 or 2 could probably be repeated in mixed company :-)

SterlingFest - October 8, 2022 - Previous Vendor Invites
Hi,
SterlingFest is coming up on Saturday, 8 October. We normally host a booth, with a small portable station, and some literature.
See https://www.qsl.net/sterling/Sterlingfest/Sterlingfest.htm for pictures of our past efforts.
We are now looking for a volunteer to lead the effort. The above web page also has kinks to draft plans we have used in the past.
Volunteer??

Monthly Meeting, Wednesday, 1 June, at 7 PM - SUMMARY
Hi,
Excellent meeting. We had twelve in-person. Paul, KK4AIA, set up the Zoom link but no one joined us via Zoom.
Our outdoor antenna measuring activity was fun. Three of the antennas were "good."
An excellent, well made Alpha Delta fan dipole with loading coils. 87 feet long. Resonated at 80,20, and 10. No resonance at 40M.
An off-center fed dipole. 74-1/2 feet on one leg. 45 foot 2 inches on other. slight dip around 80M.
Wire diamond. About 134 foot, 4 inches long.
Amit, WY2Z, had refreshments. They were good. Girl scout cookies. Thin mints. Excellent!
We will continue to work on Field Day plan very soon. Need to ask Paul, K4PDF, if he can spray for bugs again.
We had no volunteers for new officers. We really could use some fresh management of the club.
At least one good joke. You had to be there to hear it.
