Monthly Meeting on Wednesday, 1 December 2021, at 7 PM

Hi, It is time for our December monthly meeting. November seemed to go by very quickly. Wednesday, 1 December, at 7 PM. The meeting will be Hybrid. We will meet at the Sheriff's Substation in Sterling. Concurrently we will meet on-line using Zoom. The Zoom instructions are below. Maybe we can do better with the electronics than last time. I could not get the room projection system to work at the same time as Zoom. HA HA The presentation this month will be by Earl, KB0NRK, on "HamPI." He started this presentation a couple of month ago, but we ran out of time. We invited him to start from the beginning and do it over. A good talk. I am looking forward to it. We do not have much club business. We can review progress on the Virginia QSO Party. We do not have a Tech Ten Talk lined up. Maybe someone will volunteer. COVID is still out there. Remember to bring a mask. QSL Bureau Needs Volunteers

Hi, SPARC runs the ARRL 2-letter prefix, 4th call area incoming QSL Bureau. This is staffed by volunteers, primarily from SPARC, but anyone is welcome. The general process is: We receive boxes of QSL cards from the post office. We sort them by the first letter following the number. We give them to letter managers who sort them by call sign and then distribute them to the intended recipient. We need at least one more volunteer to be a letter manager. At this time, we have a letter manager who is managing 3 letters. He would like to pass one of these along to a new person. Typically this takes about 1-4 hours per month. Tech Class and Examination - 5-6 February 2022

Hi,

SPARC will try to conduct a Technician level preparation class and concurrently hold an in-person examination session.

We are trying for Saturday - Sunday, 5-6 February.

Amit, WY4Z, will coordinate the classes. He will be reaching out to the instructors to see if they are available. We have had enough positive response so far so we should be able to do this.

Mike, WB8RDN, and Kevin, W4KLS, will coordinate the exam session. They also have had a positive response from VEs.

We hope the COVID situation gets better.

In addition, we hope we get a better response than we did with our last attempt at an exam session when we had essentially no one sign up.

Meeting, Wednesday, 3 November, at 7 PM - Summary

Hi, Our hybrid In-person/Zoom monthly meeting was interesting. Zoom worked well. Once again I could not get the projection system to work, even though I had practiced a few days before the meeting. Oh, well. The presentation by Ben, N4CV, on DMR was illuminating. I had not realized how far digital radio had progressed. The technology is amazing and the repeater networks are extensive. His presentation is attached. Ben is on this email reflector so if you have questions, just reply to the list. It was nice seeing the folks at the meeting. We has 16 attendees, about evenly split between Zoom participants and in-person participants. Amusingly, since the projector was not behaving, many of the in-person folks turning on Zoom in order to see the presentation slides. The magic of technology. 73, Gordon, NQ4K
