Club Meeting, Wednesday, 4 March 2015

Hi,

It is time for our March club meeting.  Time seems to move along rapidly sometimes.

I have had a good month in ham radio.  I will have given the Virginia QSO party presentation at the Alexandria Radio Club, the Roanoke Valley Amateur radio club, and at the Chesapeake Amateur Radio Service.  In addition, I ran a special event station at our church to enable some of the younger members of our congregation to get on the radio. Finally, I worked the ARRL DX CW contest on 40M for a couple of hours and following the advise of folks at the last club meeting, did a QSO with Navassa Island.  A good month for me.

Refreshments for the meeting will be provided by Eric, AJ4LN.

Charlie, K3SR, will give a demonstration this month on "Cable Impedance Measurement and other techniques."  I am not a hands-on person, so this will be very interesting for me.

Finally, we have a few items of club business.  We will do a little final coordination for VA QSO Party, which is rapidly coming up on 21-22 March.

See you at the meeting,

Refreshments were provided by Red, N3TG.

Secretary Eric, AJ4LN collected the annual $10 dues from 18 people (some of the dues were from people not attending the meeting), and handed the money to treasurer, Ray, KD4RSL.

We had a round of introductions where each person shared their recent amateur radio related activities.

We had our annual show and tell, where people presented some interesting radio related items. Eric, AJ4LN showed the "Useless Box" contraption he had assembled from a kit he received for Christmas. Here's a link to the kit: http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/ef0b/

We had our annual "white elephant" gift exchange.

We discussed the Virginia QSO Party, which our club hosts, and which takes place March 21-22, 2015. We are making progress on receiving payments for sponsored plaques. We discussed plans to have a K4NVA/Mobile HF station on the air outside Loudoun County on Sunday morning, during the time the main K4NVA station is expected to be off the air during the Vienna Wireless Winterfest hamfest, which falls on the same Sunday morning only for this year.

We discussed the next technician license class.

Club meeting, Wednesday, 4 February 2015 at 7PM

Hi,

It is time for the February club meeting.  Wednesday, 4 February 2015.

Refreshments for the meeting will be provided by Paul, K4PDF.

I have had a very busy month. The biggest thing was participating in the tech license preparation class and exam this past weekend.  The instructors did an excellent job and Red, N3TG, the exam session coordinator can tell us how the students did.

At this meeting, Henry, K2BFY, will give a presentation on "ARES in Loudoun County."  Henry has been working with Tom Dawson to update the plan for AREA support to Loudoun County Government.  I know almost nothing about ARES so this should be an interesting talk.

We do have a few items of club business.

We will get an update on preparations for the Virginia QSO Party.  Bill, KJ4VTH, has been lining up sponsors for the plaques.

See you at the meeting.
