Winterfest

On, 12/18/2010 12:34 PM, Ray Anderson emailed::
On Sunday, February 27, 2011, the Vienna Wireless Society ARC will host
its 35^th annual Winterfest.

Help us make it a success.

Spread the word to the ham community; talk about it at your club
meetings; pass along the information flyer that is found at:

Additional information is at:

And if you have amateur radio equipment to sell … maybe someone in your
home has suggested that you have too much stuff … maybe you want to turn
some of that stuff into hard cash … then consider renting one or more
tables at $25 each and sell your stuff to your fellow hams.

If you’re interested, don’t dawdle … many tables have already been reserved.

Click on this link to see the table layout and to reserve your table(s).

An alternative method is to send me the information as a response to
this email and I’ll reserve your table(s) for you.

I’ll need your name, Call, postal address, a general, brief description
of what you’re going to sell, and how many tables you want. If you know
the designation of the tables that you’d like to have (go to the link
above to look at the table layout map) then let me know that as well,
otherwise I’ll assign the table(s) for you.

You can then rest easy once I’ve confirmed your table reservations.

I know February is still a couple of months away, but don’t wait too
long to reserve your table(s); they’re going quickly.

If you have any questions, feel free to leave an email or call me on my
cell, 703-626-3829.

December Meeting Notes

SPARC held their December meeting on the first of the month at the Claude Moore Community Center. Sixteen members attended the meeting.

After member introductions, the group discussed upcoming activities, including the planned operation from the W&OD caboose in Herndon on Dec 11th.

SPARC is also planning a Technician class and exam session for the weekend of Feb 12th and 13th. Gordon, NQ4K, will host the session at his home if we're not able to identify a more suitable location that is available both days. Contact Gordon if you have any suggestions. Volunteers are still needed to teach a couple of the subject areas.

We held preliminary discussions for 2011 Field Day after a very successful finish in 2010. The club discussed plans to switch logging software for the K4NVA station and will evaluate the N1MM software on a set of networked computers at an upcoming meeting. We also discussed continuing as a category 3A station. Ray, KD4RSL, offered to analyze the logs from 2010 and prepare a review of the operation. His results will be discussed at the next meeting.

We'll meet again on January 5th, at 7:00 PM in the Claude Moore Community Center. Have a Happy Holiday.

Caboose Article in Herndon Patch

Hi,

Bill, WF1L, and Kevin, W4KLS, got a nice sriteup in the Herndon Patch, on on-line newspaper. See

http://herndon.patch.com/articles/amateur-radio-club-hosts-open-house#

This was a very successful event. We had many visitors and several young folks had an opportunity to make a contact on the radio.

Please pass along your thanks to Bill, WF1L, for organizing the event, and Henry, K2BFY, for supplying the radios, and all the others who worked the station (Jim, KF4PQL, Mark, KI4OBT, Paul, K4PDF, Eric, AJ4LN, Dick, W2YE, and others I may have missed).

Radio related museums near DC

SPARC:

Here are the 2 radio related museums in the DC area that we talked
about at this week's meeting. I've visited both, and recommend
visiting them next time you are in their areas when they are open. The
first one is next to BWI. The second is out 50, near 301, on the way
towards Annapolis.

PS: If you know of any others, please let us know.

Mid Atlantic Antique Radio Club December Meeting at Sully

Here's the link to the MAARC Meeting schedule. (http://www.maarc.org/calendar_of_events.htm) Click on the December meeting to get directions to the Sully Center (Meeting Site).

Most Meetings have a tailgate before the meeting and after the meeting is the auction. Non Members have to pay a small fee to participate in the auction.

Lots of fun and you won't believe the bargains that can be had at the auction. Tailgate is usually a little more pricey but the stuff you see is interesting.
