Field Day Update Late Friday

Hi,

We held the antenna rope hanging party at Park View High School.? We probably had 20 folks show up to participate.? Very good turnout.

Moderate wind however, so our efforts were not fully successful.? We managed to hang two of the three ropes.? We will do the third tomorrow during our site setup.

Dead eyes were Gordon, NQ4K, and Nick, KM4WWQ, and Nick, No License.? Bill, K4UPE, made a valiant attempt on the third, but the wind was too strong and keep blowing the line off the light pole cross beam.

See you all tomorrow morning at 1000 for setup.

Field Day Update

Hi,

Field day activities start this evening at 7:00 PM.? We gather at Park View High School to put ropes over the light poles.? tomorrow we will use the ropes to pull up wire antennas.? This usually takes about an hour.

This is always an interesting.? Hams with their EZ Hang slingshots, maybe an air cannon, trying to lay a fishing line over a light pole.? A ham takes the shot, then a few seconds of anticipation as the fishing sinker flies through the air, and we watch the fishing line gently arc through the air.? Will the line land on the light pole or will it blow off???

The weather is looking very good.? A high of 82 on Saturday and a high of 84 on Sunday.? No rain.

The only problem with the weather is that Saturday night the low may be 59.? Those on night shift may hve to bring a jacket or flannel shirt to keep warm.

See you tonight at 7.

Field Day Update

Hi,

Field Day preparations are coming along well.

Today I start pulling the small amount of equipment I bring to field day out of our basement.? I will probably unroll and reroll the wire antennas to verify which antenna is which. ? Gary, K4SRX, and Duane, K4UW, will bring Gary's pickup truck over to my house on Saturday morning to load it up.? Once I moved from my big Mercury Grand Marquis, to a much smaller Nissan Versa, I no longer have the cargo space to move it all.

Jim, AF4MO, talked to the Loudoun Times Mirror about running an article.? They may also send someoue to our field day site to take pictures and run a story.

Paul, K4PDF, invited Koran Saines, the Sterling District Supervisor on the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors to our event and he accepted.?

Finally, I looked at the Wunderground weather this morning and it all looks very good.?
? Saturday has a high of 72, with not rain.
? Sunday has a high of 81 with no rain.
? Both days are mostly sunny, with a few clouds.?
? Very nice weather.
? Hope the forecast holds until this weekend.?

We can use more operators to sign up for time.

See you at Field Day,

Field Day Update

Hi,

Field day is coming up soon.? Last night at the meeting, we were able to fill in a lot of blanks on our plans.

The current draft is on our website.

We still need operators to sign up for time slots.? Although things change, it is a good starting point if we have all the times covered.??

Or id you want to help out with something else, please let us know and we will add you in.?? The plan is the minimum we need to put on field day. As people volunteer we add things in.

Meeting on Wednesday, 5 June - UPDATE 2

Hi,

Steve, KN4BGW, emails that the tech ten team talk will be "Visit to the W2YE Radio Shack."  Dick, W2YE, a member of our club, has a mid-level radio setup with several radios, linear amplifiers, a couple of antenna towers, and several wire antennas.  Steve videotaped the station and both Dick can answer questions.

See you at the meeting,

Meeting on Wednesday, 5 June - UPDATE

Hi,

We will also go over field day for the new members in the club.  And help fill in some of the blanks in the plan.

We have not heard yet from the tech ten tech team as to the tech ten talk.  I have enjoyed their presentations all year.  Be interesting to see what they have for this month.
