Herndon Festival 1-2 June 2013

Hi,

Herndon Festival is this coming weekend. SPARC operates a booth on Saturday, 1 June, and supports the 5K/10K races on Sunday, 2 June. The plans are available on our website at http://www.qsl.net/sterling/HerndonFest/HerndonFest.html.

If you are in the area on Saturday, please stop by the booth. It will be located in the parking lot at the intersection of Station and Pine Streets between the Harvest Bread Company and the Dominion Animal Hospital. Don, KC4RCG, will be there all day along with a few other club members and I am sure they would like to see you.

May 18-19 Tech Class nd Testing Summary

It is my understanding that the Tech class on last Saturday/Sunday had 17 students and all took and passed their Tech exams.  We also had six currently licensed and four of them earned license upgrades, two to General and two to Extra.  Finally, of our Tech class, one made the leap all the way from no license to General.  Way to go, guys and gals!  They (and we) have a few more days to wait and see what the FCC finds for them in the "new call" out basket.

Our thanks to Gordon NQ4K, Duane K4UW, Charlie K3SR, Paul K4PDF, Jim KF4PQL and Kevin W4KLS who ably assisted in the registration and check-in of those taking the exams, proctoring the test-takers, scoring the exams, and patiently waiting while I did my best to pull all the paperwork together and get the "I's" dotted and "T's" crossed.  By my count going back to the first of our most recent 5 VE sessions, we have aided 72 people to get their initial ham licenses.

Now, let's reach out and see if any of them need Elmering to make sure they get on the air and begin to explore the wonderful world of ham radio, and encourage a few more to come join us for Field Day and for future club meetings.

See you at Field Day...
