Activities at Herndon Festival, Saturday and Sunday, 30-31 May - Need Help

Hi,

Herndon Festival is coming up at the end of May.

SPARC normally puts up a special event station/booth to advertise amateur radio on Saturday and provide support to the 5/10K races on Sunday (i.e., drive timers to the mile markers and operate 2M radios at the mile markers).

Attached are drafts of the plans for both events.

For the Booth, we primarily need someone to lead the event.  Last year, Jim, KF4PQL (SK), and hid neighbor George, manned the booth all day and many others stopped by.

*** We need someone to run it this year

*** We need others to help out.

For the 5/10K races, we will start with the people we had last year and see if they are available this year.  Any new people who volunteer will fill in open spaces.

*** If you worked the event last year, please email back with your availability for this year. (i.e., Dave, K3DAR; Dick, W2YE; Eric, AJ4LN; Bill, WF1L; John, N2PBY; Ray, KD4RSL; Blair, KC9BBW; and Paul, K4PDF).

*** If you are interested in working the event, maybe for the first time, please email and we will fit you in.

This is always fun.  At the booth you get to meet people, hams always stop by and chat.  At the race, we get to work our handhelds, often for the only time during the year, as most of us mostly work HF.

H.R. 1301 - Bill to ease antenna restrictions for ham radio antennas

Hi,

As Red, N3TG, mentioned at the last club meeting, antenna restrictions remain a problem for many hams.  See below.

***  QST  QST  QST  ***

    TO:  All club members!

The Federal H.R.1301 bill, if enacted, will make it easier for us to
put up ham radio towers and antennas by relieving restrictions on
licensed amateurs - similar to what was done for the satellite
industry and their satellite TV dish antennas.

What is being proposed here is worth looking at and writing a letter
    to support the bill's passage.

_*The Amateur Radio Parity Act of 2015 -- H.R.1301 -- was introduced
on March 4th in the US House of Representatives. The measure would
direct the FCC to extend its rules relating to reasonable
accommodation of Amateur Service communications to private land use
    restrictions.*_

HR 1301 will _*require*_ the FCC to amend its Part 97 Amateur
Service rules to apply the three-part test of the PRB-1 federal
pre-emption policy _to include homeowners' association regulations
and deed restrictions_, often referred to as "covenants, conditions,
    and restrictions" (CC&Rs).

All licensed hams are urged to contact their US House of
Representatives members asking them to sign on to and support the
    bill as a co-sponsor.

Virginia QSO Party Paper Log Scoring on Saturday, 18 April, at 0800

Hi,

It is time for our Virginia QSO Party Paper Log Scoring Party.

We have 30 paper logs that we need to hand/manually score.  Club members come to my QTH and we sit around a table and score the logs. Ideally, the person who submits the log has already scored the log but we need to check it to ensure it is correct.  If you have not scored a paper log before, we will show you how.  It is easy.

Normally we get somewhere between 3 - 7 club members.  The scoring takes about 2-3 hours.

This year the scoring party will be on Saturday, 18 April, at 0800 at my QTH.

See you then,
