Herndon Festival Booth on Saturday, 2 June

Hi,

SPARC was going to set up a booth at Herndon Festival on Saturday, 2 June.

I was the lead on this and was planning on bringing all the necessary equipment.

I will now be unable to attend on Saturday.

Therefore, the booth is CANCELLED, unless someone else wants to run it.

If someone else want to run it, please let me know and we can talk about what you want to do.  This can be anything from the full setup as we have done in the past to just the canopy, some literature, and the SPARC banner.

I am sorry for the last minute change in plans.

Gordon,

I just wanted you to know the QSO data you provide me is very useful researching propagation. Here is my latest example article focusing on the 2015 40/80m blackout many of us Northern Virginians witnessed.

Herndon Festival 5/10K Race Support

Hi,

We are still on to support the Herndon Festival 5/10K races on Sunday morning, 3 June.

We will try to run it the same as we did in the past except that we will not need to take the volunteer timers to the mile markers and we will relocate to road junctions to help direct the runners on their way.  I hope to hear soon on which road junctions.

I believe we have the following volunteers to participate.

  Marty, NV3H, on-site race-day coordinator
  James, NK4BHF
  John, KK4AHY
  Bill, WF1L
  Jim, KN4FAF
  Ray, KD4RSL
  Mary, KK4HMX
  Chaz, KK4TNO
  Tia, KM4WXA
  Duane, K4UW

We could use one more volunteer.  Would give us a little flexibility.

We could also use someone to be net control.

I know things are a bit up in the air, be please remain flexible and I am sure all will work out alright and, as always, it should be fun.

AREDN-in-the-Park Mesh Networking Event on 6/10

There is growing interest in the Northern Virginia area in high-speed wireless mesh networking and the Amateur Radio Emergency Data Network (AREDN).  This technology utilizes 2.4 GHz, 3.4 GHz. and 5.6 GHz amateur bands,  A group of several dozen hams across the region have been examining the technology and potential applications in our area.  Several mesh networks have been set up for permanent testing with plans to expand to more areas.

The group has scheduled their first AREDN-in-the-Park field test activity for Sunday, June 10, at Bull Run Regional Park in Centreville, VA (map).  This location was chosen because it offers varied terrain, including some very large fields for testing microwave links.  They have reserved Shelter #11 at the park for the day, beginning at 9 AM.  This is the first shelter on the right if you continue straight after the gate house.   All area hams are invited to visit or participate, and there is no fee to enter the park for residents of Arlington, Fairfax and Loudoun Counties, or the Cities of Alexandria, Fairfax and Falls Church.

The upcoming AREDN-in-the-Park activity will be a great opportunity for exposure to AREDN.  We will be able to accommodate a larger group and can spread out around the park as needed for testing, so feel free to invite a friend or your club membership to come check it out.  For more information contact Ben Mills N4CV at n4cv@arrl.net.
