ISS SSTV Event Underway

A series of 12 SSTV images is being transmitted from the ISS for the next few days.  Transmissions are scheduled to run until 1830 UTC Saturday, with an interruption Friday for an EVA.  More information here:  https://issfanclub.eu/2021/06/17/ariss-sstv-award-for-amateur-radio-on-shuttle-mir-and-iss-slow-scan-tv-sstv-event-from-june-21-26/

Downlink is 145.800, FM.  SSTV images are transmitted in PD120.

The downlink is strong and you can receive it with an HT and extended rubber duck.  Doppler shift on 2M is +/- 3kHz, so unlikely you need to tune.  You will need to move the antenna around to minimize polarization losses and fading.  RX-SSTV (Windows) will autodetect and save any captured images so you can leave a radio and PC running overnight or while away.  There is also the Robot36 SSTV software for Android (probably something for IOS as well) that will capture and decode speaker audio.  Images take several minutes to transmit and the transmitter is off for a minute or 2 between transmissions.  So 2-3 images per pass is possible.

We get 5-6 ISS passes a day, currently between roughly 0800-1800 UTC (0400-1400EDT).  You can see passes for this area here: https://www.satmatch.com/satellite/ISS/obs1/FM18hx?duration_hrs=96

A gallery of images uploaded from stations worldwide is here:  https://www.spaceflightsoftware.com/ARISS_SSTV/index.php

You can upload images you receive (and get a nice reception award emailed to you)  here: https://www.spaceflightsoftware.com/ARISS_SSTV/submit.php

Real-time status at amsat.org/status, look for yellow boxes in the lowest row (ISS-SSTV)

The ISS radio system is scheduled to be in repeater mode for Field Day, then switch to APRS.

Happy receiving!
