Virginia QSO Party Status

Hi,

A quick update on the Virginia QSO Party.

We have received 452 logs already.  This is more than last year's 449 and we sill have 3 weeks to go before all logs are due.

We have however received only seven logs from SPARC members.  Maybe they will drift in later.

The log submittal portal, developed by Marty, NV3H, is working well.  About half of the logs are coming in through the portal with the remainder being emailed.  I suspect that the portal is catching many log errors before they even reach us.

Henry, K2BFY, and Eric, AJ4LN, our log scorers, are working through the logs expeditiously.

Overall, things are going very well.

Finally, do not forget we have a club meeting in two weeks.  The proposed plan is to hold part of it on the 2M repeater and the presentation remotely on zoom.  If you are like me, then you have to remember to put a 2M antenna.

Virginia QSO Party is Over

Hi,

It is Monday morning and I have recovered from the Virginia QSO Party weekend.  It is over.

I had great fun.  The 80M band was very active.  Everybody was friendly.  The mobiles were active.  I did all except 2 QSOs on 80.  Did 317 QSOs.  About 30 QSOs on CW, the remainder on SSB.

Made contacts with Dick, W2YE, Eric, AJ4LN, Larry, W8ANT (on CW), and Kevin, W4KLS.

We have 225 logs received as of this morning.  The log submittal portal implemented by Marty, NV3H, appears to be working well.  Eric, AJ4LN, and Henry, K2BFY, are sitting by waiting for me to send them logs to score.

Good work all,

Virginia QSO Party - End of Day 1

Hi,

Day 1 of the Virginia QSO Party is over.  The 80M band was incredibly busy on both SSB and CW.  I worked on and off all day.  179 QSOs.  Did QSOs with Dick, W2YE, Eric, AJ4LN, among others.  It was a lot of fun.

Maybe today, I will try the other bands, maybe even venture up to 2M.

We are starting to get logs in.  Three so far.  Marty, NV3H, completed his online log submittal portal.  Be interesting to see how many people use it.

Hope to see you on the air.

Meeting, 1 April on 7PM - Virtual Meeting

Quick update:

* No additional votes received, so we’re going to try a technical meeting with online videoconferencing.

* We haven’t confirmed all the details, but it will probably be a presentation at Software Define Radio by someone from Flex Radio.

* We’ll probably use WebEx.  Some people have reported problems with WebEx at work lately, but I suspect by next month any capacity issues will be resolved.  WebEx works within a browser or with a downloaded app that is available for Windows or Mac.  It also works with an Android or iPhone app.  We don’t want to make the speaker wait while we resolve technical issues, so if you haven’t used WebEx before email me at least a day in advance and we’ll try a practice conference.

* I got the 145.31 repeater schedule wrong - it’s available for us starting at 7, so perhaps we could do a Net for the first hour then the presentation from 8 to 9.  I would also encourage everyone to make sure they can access the repeater days before; a 77 Hz PL tone is required.

Meeting, Tuesday, 3 March, at 7PM - UPDATE 1

Hi,

The meeting is tomorrow.

Our presentation has changed.  Joe, WB2SAI, now has a conflict so we have postponed his presentation.

John, W3XWT/4 has volunteered to move his presentation forward.  He will talk on “Shipboard and Other Extraterritorial Broadcasting.”  John is an entertaining speaker and it will be interesting.

See you at the meeting,
