On behalf of the new Vienna Wireless Society Club President, Don, KM4UDX, I’m writing you* today asking you to consider announcing the upcoming VWS WINTERFEST hamfest to your membership at upcoming meetings in January and February.
The event is Sunday, March 10th (moved so we wouldn’t be on top of the VA QSO Party weekend!). The venue is once again Oakton High School, in Vienna. Details are at our website, https://viennawireless.net/wp/events/winterfest/
Also, should your club wish to rent a table (or two) at the Hamfest, vendor registration is open and can be assessed at: https://viennawireless.net/wp/events/winterfest/winterfest-table-reservations/
Thanks in advance,
Mike, WA8AHZ
ARRL VA Section Affiliated Club Coordinator Hi,
Good meeting. Seven attendees. All on Zoom. No one on 2M repeater.
The primary topics of conversation were the 10M contest and LOTW.
Interesting.
the best jokes were:
Why did the car only work every other day?
It was an alternator.
What do you call fake spaghetti?
Im-pasta.
Why do skeletons not fight?
No guts.
A guy used to play a piano by ear.
Now he uses his fingers.
What did the digital clock say to the grandfather clock?
Look! No hands.
I went to a doctor because I was always collecting iPads.
He gave me tablets.
That is all for now. See you next week.

hI,
The monthly meeting was great. The presentation was outstanding.
Zoom worked to allow a few remote members to participate. There was
good conversation after the presentation. We had refreshments.
Altogether a good event.
We had 13 attendees.
We get a new amateur radio provider all the time. The presenter
mentioned Hermes lite 2 QRP radio. See http://www.hermeslite.com/.
It sounds interesting.

Hi,
We had a very good license examination session yesterday,
Sunday, 10 Dec 2023.
We had 10 candidates come through.
4 new technicians
1 new general (an upgrade from tech)
3 new amateur extras
(2 were upgrades from general.
1 19 year old passed all three exams)
2 failed the tech exam
We had 7 VEs supporting the effort.

Also, Evan, KM3SK, printed some flyers about our club and we
passed them out to new hams. Maybe we will get a few new members.
Everything went very smoothly.
Very small sample size, but it seems that folks who take our tech
class do better on the exam than those who do not.
This was the first time we tried walk-ins only. It worked out
OK. A little slower but not significantly.
Thank you all who helped. It was a good time.
I think we are going to schedule a tech class and exam session for
February. Amit, WY2Z, will coordinate the class. We will let all
know when we have settled on the dates.

Hi,
It is December and time for our monthly in-person meeting. It
starts at 7 PM at the Sheriff Substation in Sterling.
Refreshments. Someone mentioned they would bring refreshments but I
have forgotten who. Please email back.
Our featured guest speaker will be Ed Cabic, N2EC, who will talk on
"Parks on the Air (POTA)." He mentioned he recently gave the talk
and it lasted 40 minutes with almost an hour of Q&A. I said
that would be OK. If we are that interested we should allow the
conversation. A few of our members are heavily involved in POTA
activities. Conrad, N4ZQA, has over a thousand contacts as a
hunter. Kevin, WB0POH, has activated several parks in a couple of
states. both talk about their POTA activities in our weekly 2M/ZOOM
net meetings. This sounds like an emerging alternative to DXCC'ing,
especially for hams with more limited antenna options. I am looking
forward to the presentation.
We hope you make an effort to attend the meeting to give Ed a good
welcome and excellent audience.
We will try ot Zoom the meeting, but cannot guarantee we will be
successful. Hope to see you there.

Hi,
A good meeting. Eight attendees. All on Zoom. No one on 2M.
We determined that most folks fold their leaf bags. Only a few
leave them open.
Antennas were still a good discussion topic. All had a comment
about their antennas staying up or coming down and putting new one
ones up. All interesting
Jokes.
Did you hear about the chef who died?
He pasta'ed away.
They say I have a face for radio and a voice for radio.
A guy got a broken guitar from eBay.
No strings attached.
