News from the Sterling Park Amateur Radio Club (SPARC)

Hi, We are looking for volunteers. The 4th Call Area, 2-Letter Prefix ARRL Incoming QSO Bureau, which SPARC runs, needs one or two volunteers to become letter managers. Blair, NS1H, the "A" letter manager is relinquishing that role and we need a replacement. Blair says it takes about 3 hours per month to handle the "A" call sign QSL cards. In general the overall process is: The Bureau Manager, Gordon, NQ4K, picks up incoming QSL Cards at the Post Office. He takes them to Margarete in Centreville, who "bulk" sorts them by the first letter following the "4" in the call sign. The Bureau Manager then picks up the bulk sorted cards and distributes them to the Letter Managers. Most letter managers handle 1 letter, some do 2 or 3. The Letter Managers sorts by call sign and distributes to the call sign holder. If you are interested, please email back. Hi We had eight attendees. All on Zoom. We have not had any attendees on the 2M repeater for the past two sessions. Be interesting to see what happens next week. Maybe this is because it is in the middle of summer. I repeated three good jokes to my XYL. They enjoyed them all. I tried a few of my jokes. They did not go over as well. Oh, well. Hi, We had seven attendees. Good conversation. Ended up with some volunteers to do stuff at our monthly meetings. Charlie, K3SR, and Kevin, KJ4OTQ, will collaborate on a presentation on "Software Digital Radio" for the February meeting. Our regularly scheduled Stand-In is this Sunday, 15 August, at 1 PM.  Normal gathering place.  The amphitheater adjacent to the Claude Moore Park Visitor Center.  May be more crowded this  this weekend because the weather is looking good.

We will hold the Sterling Park ARC Annual Pizza Party this year.

Date: Wednesday August 4, 2021

Where: Joe's Pizzeria 22360 S Sterling Blvd Suite 103, Sterling, VA 20164 (Sterling Park Safeway Shopping Center)

Time: 7PM local time (1900 DST, 2300 GMT)

We will have plenty of room to spread out/socially distance and still enjoy the the fellowship of our club.

The club will provide pizza, salad and soft drinks however we ask that you provide a donation to help defray the costs.

Beer and/wine will not be provided at the clubs expense but you may purchase separately.
